Chapter 17
She is…disconcerted… I follow behind Hansuke and Ayane as we slink as quietly as we can through the mourning village. However, my sixth sense keeps prodding at me. So much so that I cannot fully focus on my surroundings. Ayane’s psyche is a wonder! I have never felt anything like it before! But I must calm myself. I understand Ayane’s distress. Here she is in the village she has know

Chapter 16
As soon as Zane and Akira disappear into the shadow of trees, an aching gasp escapes me, and I buckle. My body feels so weak and heavy. I didn’t realize how much Zane’s hand had been an anchor. Now without it, my body seems to remember just how drained it is.
“Ayane! Ayane, are you alright?!”
Houseki’s startled yelp bounces around in my mind and I feel her head butt against my hand. I close my eyes to ward off the dark spots dancing around my vision and stand completely still. Houseki gives my hand a few licks and I reach out to blindly touch her scruff.
“Listen to your packmate. You should

UPDATE NEWS: Serpentine Bonds and Families
HELLO! HELLO! HELLO!
While 2020 sucked in general, the last quarter of it nearly killed me. Not only was I sick on and off, but I've been going through lots of emotional drama with my family. I can't say things are normal now, because they're not. But I have had the chance to rest my mind and body and recuperate some since January. I started writing again in the middle of February and it has served as an outlet for me, as well as a form of escapism. I did finish the latest chapter of My Quiet World of White, which will be posted shortly after I proofread it. So yay! Progress!
I also thought I'd post something more about the Serpentine and G

When They Die...Sasha
Sasha held the body of her dead husband in her arms, sobbing and rocking back and forth. Eyes wide and unblinking, each breath expelled from her trembling lips came faster than the last. The last hours had been excruciating--whispering brokenly for Cole to wake up, begging him to open his eyes so she could look into his beautiful emerald eyes just one more time...and being ignored. She could do nothing as his deep, even breaths grew quieter and quieter until his chest stilled.
Sasha couldn't look at him anymore after that. Still couldn't as she released his cooling body and got up from the bed. In a dazed stupor, she padded downstairs to the
After Jayson "Jay" Walker died, Cole Belmonte, the Master of Earth, felt his time drawing near. It was a strange thing. He could feel his fathomless strength waning in his old age. But more than that, it was getting more difficult to wake up every morning. Ancient fatigue settled in his soul, like a grizzly bear readying to hibernate for the winter. During one dawn, Cole had slept so deeply and soundly that Sasha, his wife lying beside him, couldn't wake him up. What had finally roused him to lucidity, was the feeling of rain against his cheek. When he opened his eyes, his lethargic emerald gaze met the stormy gray one of his wife...and the

Chapter 15 I have visited a hospital before, of course…but never one where the moans and groans of the suffering greeted me at the door and echoed all around me. According to Ayane, the hospital in Shika is made of the same materials of every other building I’ve seen thus far in the hamlet: the strongest and most durable wood Asuta Jingu had to offer. From the outside, the haunting and towering, four-story log cabin appeared very weathered—almost dilapidated. The inside is just the opposite, however. It’s bright. Well-maintained flooring and walls. It’s healthy. But it’s just the building. I follow behind Ayane and Hansuke through the hospital, passed the injured but functioning. The sterile scent of antiseptic is tinged with fresh blood. Are all the rooms full? Or are they just separated by the severity of each case? There are just so many people. Nurses litter the hallways, their scrubs peppered with bloodstains. Their faces are covered in masks, and their hands are encased in
